Lafayette Trash, Waste and Garbage Removal
Known as one of the three areas making up “Lamorinda” in Contra Costa County, Lafayette is a fair-sized city of around 24,000. Named for a Revolutionary War hero of the period, a Frenchman, Lafayette is one of the region’s most affluent communities. This is a beautiful, peaceful city, situated in a pastoral setting among rolling hills and open skies, rife with good restaurants, unique shops and attractive real estate. The climate in this area is also more than pleasant, with warm summers and cool winters, rarely harsh or uninviting. The city is home to an unusually high percentage of Asian residents, and enjoys a nice diversity in demographics.
Lafayette Recycling & Waste Diversion
Lafayette is one of the most aggressive recycling cities in the Bay Area, and with a citywide goal of 75% waste diversion, the city has set the bar high! As of the end of 2016, Lafayette is at approximately 66%, so there is more to be done. You can help this effort by following some steps recommended by Recycle Lafayette:
- Don’t underestimate what can go in the blue bin (the recycling bin) – There are over 50 types of paper, glass, metal and plastic that can be recycled. Here is the complete recyclables list.
- Freecycle old or unused clothing, toys, electronics, books, appliances and more. There are many who would eagerly take your used items before buying new, and this makes a significant impact.
- Recycle & compost food scraps – food waste is the #1 most discarded material in the typical home. 32% of waste is food waste. Throwing all leftover food items (even egg shells and coffee ground) into a composting bin (you can use your green yard waste bin) is a huge benefit to the cities health!
- Avoid disposable items and packaging when possible. Plastic utensils, water bottles, shopping bags and take-out containers are some of the worst offenders. These items often end up as landfill and are disastrous for the environment. Recycle them when you can, but avoid using them entirely when possible.
Sustainable Lafayette is a grassroots non-profit that is working to transform Lafayette into a highly sustainable community that enhances the quality of life for current and future residents.

Proudly Serving Contra Costa and Alameda Counties
Recently I hired All American Hauling to help me accomplish some very overdo garbage removal and junk hauling. It was all part of a major spring cleaning effort which has changed my life. Removing the clutter from my garage was such an incredible breath of fresh air! I can even park my car inside again!
They also helped haul away years worth of tree cuttings and yard waste. For years I would tell myself that I’d drying that stuff out during the hot months, bringing it inside come late October and burning it in the fireplace during the winter. Meanwhile, despite my good intention, and despite the fact that the wood did dry during the summer, I never brought it in (I had no room in the garage anyway) and it would get wet again every winter.
Bryan, All American Hauling’s owner, did the work along with an employee. This was my first meeting with him, but he came highly recommended from a neighbor who had used him for a trash-out following the passing of her mother. I’m 62 years old and never realized hauling service companies could be quite so helpful. I’ve really never thought much about them at all until I needed the help myself.
After Bryan had finished hauling the rusty bicycles and a horribly rusted drill press from my backyard, we got into an interesting conversation about composting. Apparently composting is big business. Turns out there is even a company called Recology which has locations all over California, and they will deliver and service a debris box if service is available in your area.
As for me, I’ll be ordering a composting box to make good use of my organic garbage. Not only will it cut down on my having to take out the trash so often, but my wife will be able to grow better veggies for me to eat using the incredibly nutrient rich compost soil it creates.
It’s laughable to think about it, but I’m actually pretty excited about garbage and my new take on how it plays a role in my life. I owe some thanks to All American Hauling for that. Lafayette just became a little bit cleaner.
